In an exciting announcement, Netflix unveiled five fresh anime projects during its global fan event, the Netflix Anime Festival 2020.

These upcoming titles - Rilakkuma’s Theme Park Adventure, Thermae Romae Novae, High-Rise Invasion, Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, and The Way of the Househusband - enrich an ever-expanding array of stories crafted in Japan.

The growing popularity of anime on Netflix is undeniable. In the last year, over 100 million households worldwide engaged with at least one anime title, reflecting a remarkable 50% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, numerous anime series consistently ranked among the top 10 watched shows across nearly 100 countries.

Popular titles like The Seven Deadly Sins and Baki have resonated deeply with audiences, with The Seven Deadly Sins establishing itself as a top-ranking series in over 70 countries and Baki doing similarly in almost 50 nations.

"In just four years since we established our creative team in Tokyo, we've dramatically broadened the audience for anime, a genre previously considered niche," expressed Taiki Sakurai, Chief Producer of Anime at Netflix. "The success of shows like The Seven Deadly Sins and Baki inspires us to elevate our anime offerings, ensuring they remain aspirational and diverse for our viewers globally."

Sakurai also noted the introduction of Anand Varna, the second Gobelins fellowship student to join the Netflix anime team, showcasing Netflix's ongoing commitment to nurturing new talent and fostering diverse voices in storytelling.

At the festival, Netflix revealed a total of 16 future anime projects, including these five new original titles:

• Rilakkuma’s Theme Park Adventure

This stop-motion series follows Rilakkuma and friends through a whimsical day at an amusement park that's closing down.

• Thermae Romae Novae

A comedic exploration of bath culture unfolds when Lucius, a bath designer from ancient Rome, time-travels to modern Japan.

• High-Rise Invasion

In this gripping survival horror series, protagonist Yuri fights to survive in a surreal, high-rise world while confronting masked enemies.

• Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan

This anthology presents four unusual tales as captured by Kishibe Rohan, a character from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

• The Way of the Househusband

The legendary yakuza member Tatsu trades his life of crime for a new role as a devoted househusband.
