PEN International is a global association of writers with members in over 100 countries. It works to promote literature and freedom of expression, and defend writers at risk. It has consultative status at the United Nations and UNESCO. PEN International has five regional centres – Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America – as well as a network of autonomous centres in over 100 countries.
