Low-frequency oscillation (LFO) is a term used in the field of audio signal processing to refer to an oscillator that produces a frequency below the range of human hearing, typically below 20Hz. It is used to modulate parameters of other audio signals, such as pitch, amplitude or filter cutoff frequency. LFOs are often used in synthesizers and effects processors to create vibrato, tremolo, phasing and other modulation effects.
