A current transformer (CT) is a type of transformer used to measure alternating current (AC). It produces a reduced voltage proportional to the current flowing in its primary winding. This reduced voltage can then be measured and used to calculate the current in the primary winding. Current transformers are commonly used in electricity metering and protective relaying applications, as well as for power system instrumentation.
