A jet engine is a type of reaction engine that discharges a fast-moving jet of fluid to generate thrust in accordance with Newton's third law of motion. This thrust is used to propel aircraft and other vehicles. Jet engines are typically fueled by burning combustible materials such as kerosene, gasoline or diesel fuel in a combustion chamber, which is then mixed with air and ignited. The hot exhaust gases produced by the combustion process are then directed through a turbine, which spins a fan or compressor to draw in more air and increase the pressure of the air-fuel mixture entering the combustion chamber. This increased pressure and velocity of the air-fuel mixture results in an increase in thrust produced by the engine.
