An incandescent light bulb is a type of electric light bulb that produces light by heating a metal filament inside a glass enclosure. The heated filament releases energy in the form of visible light and infrared radiation. Incandescent bulbs are highly inefficient, converting only about 10% of the energy they use into visible light. They are being replaced by more efficient lighting technologies such as LED and CFL bulbs.
