The Temple of Hephaestus is an ancient Greek temple located in the Agora of Athens. It was built in 449 BCE and is dedicated to the god Hephaestus, the patron of metalworking, craftsmanship and fire. The temple is one of the best-preserved ancient Greek temples and is one of the few surviving examples of Doric architecture. It stands on a low platform and has a rectangular plan with a porch at each end. The columns are made from Pentelic marble and are fluted with 20 flutes. The entablature has triglyphs, metopes, and a frieze decorated with sculptures depicting scenes from Greek mythology. Inside, there is an inner chamber that was used as a treasury for offerings to the god.
